It is one of my favorite chapters in the Word of God.
This Psalm is called a (Psalm of ASSURANCE , SECURITY AND PROTECTION).
I have read this Psalm at Church and at home and every time I do I can’t help but sense the power of God in the 16 verses that comprise the 91st Psalm. It touches me deeply.
This is the Psalm you read when you need the peace of God to be released in you as you read it out loud and let your ears hear what God is saying. I read the Word of God out loud because I literally take the verse that states that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God to heart. Romans 10:17. It has been proven that when we read something out loud we remember it better and in this case it gets in your spirit. (That’s something, the world is always coming up with ideas they think are their own but they have been in the Word for thousands of years in some cases. Another one is that a merry heart doeth good like a medicine but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Proverbs 17:22. We knew that all along from the Word of God).
So let’s start looking at the verses in Psalm 91. You can follow along with your own Bible if you prefer:
I believe the secret place of the Most High is understanding and walking in the peace of God which needs to be practiced, it doesn’t come naturally, we must exercise our faith in the Lord. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3.
What we need to achieve is to keep our mind on the Lord and His faithfulness at all times and takes renewing our mind to the Word of God and practicing the presence of the Lord. In time it becomes very easy to do, it becomes a way of life. You choose to keep your focus on the Lord and His presence and the peace of God will be powerful in your life.
Vs. 2 I WILL SAY OF THE LORD, HE IS MY REFUGE AND MY FORTRESS: MY GOD, IN HIM WILL I TRUST.
It is said that you are going to trust in someone or something so you have a choice to make. I have also heard that in a time of crisis people can really tell who or what you believe in. What comes out of your mouth in a time of crisis? Is it something I couldn’t print here or is it simply saying JESUS!!!
Out of the abundance of your heart your mouth will speak. Luke 6:45
As you read the Word of God and pray on a DAILY BASIS and WORSHIP God, your faith and trust in God will soar and you will find that trouble will come but you now know what to do in the time of stress and trouble.
Vs. 3 SURELY HE WILL SHALL DELIVER THEE FROM THE SNARE OF THE FOWLER, AND FROM THE NOISOME PESTILENCE.
This verse answers the previous verse. As you trust in the Lord SURELY HE SHALL DELIVER THEE.
The snare of the fowler would be a subtle way to trap us like satan would try to use against us. To do something unsuspecting. The noisome pestilence is talking about fears, sorrows and terrors that try to come against us.
Vs. 4 HE SHALL COVER THEE WITH HIS FEATHERS, AND UNDER HIS WINGS SHALT THOU TRUST: HIS TRUTH SHALL BE THY SHIELD AND BUCKLER.
Here we see the Lord as being so gentle with us, He knows our concerns our need to be close to Him. He knows when fear tries to come upon us.
Matthew 23:37 Jesus is talking to Jerusalem and said how often would I have gathered thy children even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wing but ye would not. That is so sad, He offered the same comfort for the Jews at that time but they would not receive the comfort of the Lord
Let’s be sure that we reach out to the Lord and receive that comfort He has promised us. He is there for you today right where you are, are you ready for Him?
Vs. 5 THOU SHALT NOT BE AFRAID FOR THE TERROR BY NIGHT; NOR FOR THE ARROW THAT FLIETH BY DAY.
The good news is that no matter what you are going through right now the Lord has you covered day and night. The good news is that there is not a time in your life that the Lord is not on duty to take care of you and protect you. Terror at night or an arrow by day, don’t you really think that the Lord can handle either one. Nothing is a challenge to our Precious Lord, He has us covered.
Next Monday I will continue with the powerful Word of Psalm 91. His Word will bless you and strengthen you.
